A car transmission and engine

Your Chrysler transmission converts the power of your engine into energy to move the wheels. The transmission is a very complex and complicated component, filled with hundreds of moving parts. This interconnected nature means that a small problem in the transmission can lead to complications for your car. As your Chrysler dealer, we’d like to tell you about some of the signs that you may need a transmission repair with us.

Check Engine Light Is On

Many drivers think the check engine light only applies to an engine problem. The light is connected to your car’s computer, and through the computer, to a network of sensors deployed inside your car. These sensors are attached to all the vital components, and they constantly monitor these components for signs of trouble.

If a problem develops in your transmission, one of the sensors will detect the issue as soon as it starts. The relevant sensors will inform your computer, which logs the problem with an error code, and the light will illuminate. Our technicians will connect your car’s computer to our diagnostic system to find the cause of the problem, and then we’ll repair it.

Transmission Fluid Leak

Transmission fluid continually circulates through your transmission. As this fluid moves, it provides important benefits for the health of your transmission. Many of the components inside the transmission depend on friction to operate. The fluid coats these components in a friction-resistant covering to protect them against damage. The movement of the fluid reduces the temperature inside the transmission as it flows over the hot components.

Transmission fluid can leak from several places, but a leak is most likely from a worn or damaged gasket or seal. The transmission pan gasket, for example, is the most important gasket in the transmission. We routinely replace it during a transmission service. If the gasket hasn’t been replaced, the seals can shrink, and it can start to leak. We’ll trace the source of the leak and then repair it.

Transmission Noises

Your Chrysler’s transmission is completely silent as it works, shifting from gear to gear according to the dictates of your transmission computer. If you start to hear strange sounds like buzzing, whining, or humming, these are signs that something is amiss with your transmission. These odd sounds will start gradually and become louder as time passes.

These sounds point to different problems inside the transmission. We’ll need to examine your transmission to find the exact problem, and then we’ll repair it.

Most transmission problems can be easily repaired if they’re identified and fixed when they first start. If your transmission shows signs of trouble, call us right away at Huston CDJR.
