You need routine car maintenance to keep your vehicle in top shape. Some forms of maintenance will need to be done annually, while others have to be done less or more frequently. Your driving habits and your car’s make, model, age, and overall condition impact how often you need to get certain forms of maintenance from your Chrysler dealer.

1. Maintain Your Fluid Levels

Having enough of every fluid in your car is essential to make sure it stays running smoothly. Every single fluid contributes to your car running well, from the motor oil to the windshield washer fluid. Learn what every fluid should look and smell like, and it’d be a good idea to learn the ideal textures, too. For example, if you take some motor oil between your fingers and find that it feels gritty, then you’ll know that you need to get your oil changed.

Being able to identify when a fluid smells wrong, looks dirty, or has a level that’s too low lets you know when it’s time to visit the dealer for a fluid change or a top-up.

2. Get Your Tires Rotated

Save yourself some discomfort and money by getting your tires rotated regularly. If you don’t get your tires rotated regularly, then they won’t wear down evenly. That leads to a ride with lots of vibration and road noise, which is unpleasant. It also leads to you replacing some of your tires more than others, and that can get costly fast. Get the tires rotated after every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.

3. Replace Your Tires When Necessary

Your tire tread plays a huge role in how long it takes for your car to come to a stop when you hit the brakes. If the tread is too low, then your car might not be considered road-safe. Get yourself a tire tread gauge, so you can check the tread at home, or use a penny. If you slot the penny into the tread upside down and can see Lincoln’s full profile, then you need new tires ASAP.

4. Get New Brake Pads

You need new brake pads every so often, so always listen out for the high-pitched screeching noise that tells you your brake pads have worn down too much. You may also have an alert on your dash that pops up when the brake pad should be replaced. While getting the brake pads replaced, go ahead and ask the mechanic at your dealer to check your whole braking system to make sure it’s in great shape.

Come to Huston Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM to get your routine maintenance and keep your car running nice and smoothly. Our mechanics are ready and waiting to help you with any maintenance jobs that need to be done.
