As the beating heart of your car, the engine should always be maintained with great care. Neglected engine issues can rapidly worsen, potentially leading to catastrophic engine failure. If you ever experience any of the following engine problems, have them repaired promptly at your local Chrysler dealership.

Misfiring Cylinders

If your engine starts to cough and sputter, it’s likely that one or more of your cylinders are misfiring. This means the spark plugs are failing to ignite the fuel-air mixture reliably. While misfiring, your engine will rapidly lose power and may even stall when you stop at traffic lights.

Misfiring can result from problems with the spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors, sensors, or restrictions in the airflow resulting from a clogged air filter or catalytic converter. It’s important to have a misfiring engine repaired quickly before an excess of unburned fuel begins to leak into the exhaust system, where it can cause serious damage.

Overheating Engine

The temperature gauge on your dashboard will let you know if your engine ever starts to overheat. With overheating, you might also hear ticking and knocking sounds, lose acceleration, and see white vapor rising from the hood as coolant begins to evaporate.

Overheating is one of the greatest dangers a car’s engine can face. It can quickly lead to a blown gasket or the engine seizing up entirely. If you ever suspect your car is overheating, pull over and contact your roadside service provider or nearest dealership for advice on what to do.

Leaking Coolant

Coolant is the engine’s number one protection against overheating. Coolant is usually a bright color such as blue, red, green, or orange. If you ever notice a brightly colored fluid like this leaking under your car, it’s best not to drive until someone has found and fixed the leak.

Degraded Motor Oil

Motor oil also plays a vital role in lubricating all the moving mechanical parts in your engine, reducing both friction and heat. It’s essential never to miss a scheduled oil change in order to keep your oil fresh and fully functional. Driving with old or degraded motor oil is a surefire way to run into unwanted engine trouble.

Faulty Oxygen Sensor

The oxygen sensor helps regulate an ideal balance of fuel and air inside the combustion chambers. If the oxygen sensor malfunctions, this fuel-air balance will be lost, causing misfiring and further problems. Oxygen sensors can be expected to last for 80,000 to 100,000 miles, but eventually, they need to be replaced.
